8/08 My family and I stayed at Sunset Beach at the end of August of this year and everyone had a great time! Sure there are always small things to complain about but people need to remember if you are booking a 3-star resort, you shouldn't expect to check into a 5-star resort. Some people complain about things no matter where they stayed. The drinks were never watered down, always lots of food at the buffet. Entertainment was different every night. The staff was really friendly. This was my third trip to Jamaica and we plan to stay at the Sunset with my family from Canada the next time we go back there. If you expect things to be perfect then you need to book and check into a 5 star resort! We got married when we were there as well and would recommend getting married here to anyone. The wedding went perfect and everyone said it was the best wedding they had been to and we ended up with some beautiful pictures of our day! Love the beach too! We can't wait to go back for our anniversary! Julie, Canada

4/08 My boyfriend and I stayed at Sunset Beach Resort April 2-8. This was our first trip out of the country together and I must admit I was a little hesitant at first, but once we got to the resort we were instantly ready to relax. The resort is gorgeous and the staff is excellent. The internet photos of the resort do not capture its real beauty. The resort is 10 times more beautiful in person. We stayed for five days and were not ready to leave. The food is excellent and available anytime (as well as the drinks)An all-inclusive trip is definitely the way to go! We took a tour of the mountains on horseback which was the greatest experience of my life. The trail ended at the beach where we took the horses running in the ocean. The tour staff was equipped with digital cameras and we were able to get a full CD of pictures taken of us while on the tour and in the ocean. I love the resort so much because it is so laid back. Shopping is great too, vendors come to the resort to sell authentic crafts at great prices. The gift shops on the resort are stocked full of great stuff too. I highly recommend this special place. The beach is incredible!!!! Tamara, MI

2/08 Me and my father visited this resort for a vacation. We arrived and had to wait for our room. At first the heat will get to you but I got adjusted pretty fast. The resort is very secure so you feel safe. There is a small buffet where they serve breakfast and dinner. For all other meals such as lunch or snacks visit the jerk hut where they serve your typical lunch cravings and snacks. There is also fountain drinks located around. There are also 3 very good resturants you need reservations to eat at, but are worth it. The spa is pretty expensive and also the phone calls. They also have fun trips such as the very popular dolphin cove and Dunn's River falls. Also be careful with the kids, the beach is topless friendly, but the nude beach is not children friendly. To sum up the place, it's fun and will definitely go back! John, NY

5/07 Upon arrival, you'll notice that it's set up like a fortress. No one goes in or out without security knowing about it. That made me feel safe. The hotel is down a quiet road near the marina.
The hotel welcomes you with a beautiful, covered open-air lobby filled with tropical plants, a large bar, lounge chairs, and giant couches. Nearby was an enclosed game room with pool tables. Just outside the lobby was a large pool with a bar in the middle, and beyond that, the beautiful blue ocean. This particular area of the Atlantic is not quite as pretty as Doctor's Cove Beach, but that's only due to the coral reef that makes the water dark in spots.
This hotel is perfect for snorkelers, and the snorkeling is free!
Everyone that works there goes out of their way to make sure you are happy. At check-in, we inquired about a room on an upper floor of one of the towers. We had to wait another hour to actually check in, but we got a 10th-floor ocean-view room!
The room was clean and fairly standard: two queen-size beds, dresser, desk, etc. Also, there was a small locking box (you get a lock and key at check-in). The outside balcony was really nice to go out on and gaze at scenery. The food at the hotel was good. There are two "fancy" restaurants, a Chinese and an Italian place, but they were booked up, so we ate either at the pool "pick-up window" (burgers, fries, jerk chicken, etc., but the fries were the only good thing) or the buffet restaurant - the pasta was the most delicious thing, but definitely try some of the local fare! The made-to-order omelets in the morning are good, too. They have a little bit of everything.
The hotel will arrange any excursion you want. There is a $6 bus that takes you to go shopping, see the city, and explore an overlook. A free hourly shuttle takes you back and forth to Margaritaville. We arranged to have a "private" taxi take us to Dunn's River Falls for $80 roundtrip. There is a daily group tour, but we wanted to be on our own time.
We bought our package on Expedia, and they would only sell a one room package for 3 adults (not 4). Well, we had a fourth, so I called the hotel. They said the room would be "tight," but would allow it for $80 extra/night (for AI). Expedia would not add a fourth to the itinerary for the package, so we cancelled our roundtrip airport transportation and took a cab. As for it being "tight," it wasn't. It was a normal room with two queen-size beds. We stay in them all the time with four people! Great time in Jamaica! D.B.
